Your chance to live in Paradise...South Pacific lifestyle and cash flow...

fatboys. for sale

This sensational bar and restaurant, built from traditional local materials and furnished with relaxation and comfort in mind, sits 100 metres from shore over the crystal clear waters of Mbabanga Island.

"fatboys.", A world class resort located in the South Pacific paradise of the Western Solomon Islands (named in honour of King Solomon) was given this name for the character 'Joe the Fatboy' from the book " Pickwick Papers" by Charles Dickens.

It offers island style luxury accommodation for 14 people in four self contained bungalows tastefully furnished with quality imported furniture, DVD player/satellite TV in each room, 240 volt power and large verandahs for sitting back and taking in the spectacular views.

  • The 'Honeymoon' bungalow, discretely located, is furnished with a queen size bed.

  • The 'Beach' duplex sleeps 2 queen and 3 singles per side.

  • The new 'Bungalow on the Water' sleeps a king size bed.

  • Land is already designated and cleared for a 5th bungalow.

  • Included in the sale is the manager's residence. This large open plan house is situated a short distance from the bungalow style accommodation. Built on the edge of a 20 metre cliff face this house offers the most incredible views to the majestic Mt Kolombangara and many small islands including the famous Kennedy Island where the former US President 'JFK' swam ashore after his patrol boat the "PT109" was sunk by a Japanese ship. A cold beer, gin and tonic (shaken not stirred) and the 'million dollar' view is required after a hard day at the office.

  • 1.7 hectares of leasehold land, with a 75 year lease and first option on renewal, provide seclusion and privacy for the fatboys. Resort and its associated infrastructure.

  • fatboys. also has leased office space in Gizo, the main island. Currently being used as office and storage space for frozen goods for the resort. Would make a great booking office.

  • The sale will be on a walk in walk out basis. Boats, engines, generators, everything will stay.

Lonely Planet - The Author's Choice (Extract)

"fatboys. bar and restaurant is terrific. It's on Mbabanga Island, at the end of a pier that hovers over the exquisite waters of Vonavona Lagoon, and is only accessible by boat…10 minutes from Gizo). The vast room has no walls and a high roof with rotating fans, creating a lovely airy space directly over the lagoon that stretches out in every direction. The bar serves cold drinks and cocktails, and the kitchen offers dishes with a seafood and Asian twist such as deep-fried crayfish and red Thai curry. There are billiard and fusball tables, DVD screens, a reading library and book-swap plus kayaks tied up to the broad landings that offer great swimming over sandy shallows, but most visitors can't take their gaze off the extraordinary view."

fatboys., with its solid construction built to uncompromising engineer's standards, withstood the recent earthquake and tidal surge without damage. Out of the tragedy of April 2 will come opportunity - a revitalized Gizo Town with new infrastructure planned such as roads, a hospital, prison and a revamped waterfront. Plans for a new international airport in the Western Province (the national carrier, Solomon Airlines, has just purchased a new Boeing to facilitate the growth in the tourism sector), just three hours flying time from Australia to Honiara and flights linking Solomons to a booming tourism industry in Vanuatu, flag a promising future for tourism in the Western Province.

There is enormous potential to develop a wide range of businesses using fatboys. as the base. Fishing charters (incredible fishing grounds - Marlin, Sailfish, Tuna, Mackerel, Trevally, Mangrove Jack), surf safaris, safe harbour/moorings for visiting yachts, house boat accommodation, World War II tours, sea kayaking, mountain hiking, exotic weddings...the possibilities are endless for the right person with the right amount of energy.

With the rebuilding of Gizo over the next five years there will be enough business to keep the buyer very busy. You don't want to be too busy that you can't enjoy your piece of South Pacific paradise.

That's in the future, but right now fatboys. is fast becoming the place of choice for R & R for relief agency staff and construction teams. It provides that feeling of "getting away from it all" while only being a short canoe trip from Gizo town. This combined with the already established market coming up from the capital Honiara will certainly keep you occupied.
